DEVELON recently expanded its range of mini excavators with the introduction of the DX42-7. Offering 47-net-horsepower and a conventional tail swing configuration, the model is ideally suited for navigating tight, congested jobsites and urban areas.

Part of the company’s next-generation -7 Series mini excavator lineup, the DX42-7 includes such features as fast cycle times, efficient torque-limiting piston pumps that respond to load demands, and a larger counterweight for improved balance and durability.

The mini excavator has a horsepower rating of 47 at 2,200 rpm, an operating weight of 9,877 lb. (4,480 kg), maximum digging depth of 11 ft. 5 in. (3.5 m), maximum digging reach (ground) of 18 ft. 3 in. (5.6 m), a maximum loading height of 12 ft. 6 in. (3.8 m), and travel speeds ranging from 2.1 to 3.1 mph (3.4 to 5 km/hr).

“Weighing in at four metric tons, the DX42-7 delivers the power, maneuverability and versatility our customers have come to expect from DEVELON mini excavators,” stated Thomas Lee, director of product management at DEVELON. “Whether it’s utility work, landscaping, construction or site prep, the DX42-7 boasts an impressive lifting capacity, enabling effortless movement of pipes, boulders and various materials. With its powerful digging forces, customers can accomplish more tasks in less time.”

The machine comes equipped with a standard thumb-ready arm, eliminating the need for any welding when adding a thumb attachment. Also onboard is quick-coupler hydraulic piping at the end of the arm for use with a compatible quick coupler.

An optional feature is a four-way swing blade on the front, which enables optimal blade positioning and a reduction in the need for frequent machine repositioning while facilitating efficient backfilling.

Customers can also choose between two control patterns, ISO and BHL, to select the pattern that best suits their preferences and ensures ease of use during operation.

The machine’s cab is designed to be easy to enter, exit and work in, offering optimal comfort for operators. Two cabin options are available: open canopy and enclosed cab configuration. Enclosed cab models come with standard heating and air conditioning and hands-free Bluetooth audio. The air conditioning system provides airflow through multiple vents, enhancing operator comfort even during long, hot days.

A simple thumb switch located on the right joystick controls auxiliary hydraulic functions, making fine adjustments effortless. The boom swing is also controlled by a thumb switch on the right joystick, eliminating the need for foot pedals.

For visibility and safety, the mini excavator features a framed full-glass door, and an optional rearview camera offers an extra perspective. High-illumination LED lamps are incorporated to offer optimal visibility of the work group. A standard travel alarm is also included to provide more jobsite awareness. The alarm is activated when the machine is moving in reverse motion or is operating on the jobsite, alerting workers to its presence. An optional rotating beacon is available.

The machine comes standard with the DEVELON Fleet Management system, which gives owners and dealers access to vital equipment data, such as machine location, health and productivity.
