On-Site Magazine is hosting its first ever 40 Under 40 Virtual Symposium, and we are inviting you to take part in this career-building opportunity. This year’s event will explore mentorship from multiple perspectives as we put a spotlight on career development.

Join us for panel discussions with On-Site 40 Under 40 in Canadian Construction program past-honourees and their employers. Our opening session will explore the formal and informal advice and training honourees received on their way to achieving career success in Canada’s construction industry. Session 2 will feature advice from industry employers who have successfully implemented mentorship programs to foster growth and excellence within their workforce.

In this session, we will discuss career development from the perspective of professionals who have been previously recognized in On-Site Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in Canadian Construction program. Each year, many of the nominees vying for recognition in this popular industry program cite mentors who have contributed to their success in the industry. But how did they find a mentor? Did they work through a formal or informal mentorship arrangement? How often did they meet with their mentor? What did they find most valuable about having a mentor? And are they now paying it forward by sharing their experience with the next generation of future industry leaders?

Numerous companies in Canada’s construction sector have mentorship programs in place. Not only do these programs help them differentiate their company when trying to attract new workers, the programs can also help identify internal candidates for advancement to greater roles in these companies. In this session, we turn to representatives from a few of these companies to explore the motives for having a formalized program, how they went about setting up their programs, unexpected benefits (such as mentors learning from younger workers), and best practices that help make their programs, and their people, more successful.
