VANCOUVER—Construction on a new tower that will become one of the tallest in Vancouver is scheduled to get underway early next year.

Developer Oxford Properties Group, the real estate unit of pension fund OMERS, detailed plans for the 162-metre (530-foot) tower Sept. 26. Located in the city’s downtown core, the tower will become the tallest office building in Vancouver, though it will top out several dozen metres short of the nearby Living Shangri-La.

The developer, which owns a 50 per cent stake in the project alongside the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, said the high-rise will include 540,000 sq. ft. of space in a tiered, twisting structure.

Dubbed “The Stack, the building was designed by James Cheng Architects and Adamson Associates Architects.

Demolition on the site is already underway and construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2019 with Ledcor Group as the general contractor.

Oxford Properties said about two-fifths of the office space has already been leased by professional services firm Ernst & Young and law firms Blakes and DLA Piper. Along with office space, the new tower will include six outdoor decks, a small park and a rooftop patio. The developer is aiming for a LEED Platinum rating on the project.

Construction is expected to be complete by early 2022.
