Crews are set to start work on a new 224-bed long-term care home east of Toronto.
Chartwell Retirement Residences said Oct. 26 it had secured the necessary approvals for the new facility in Ajax, Ont., which will replace a smaller, existing site.
Built to current design standards, the new facility will be a mix of private and semi-private units, and is more than double the size of the 100-bed site it is replacing, the senior care provider noted.
Chandos Construction is taking on the $65.2 million project that is expected to create about 200 jobs during the approximately 30-month construction period.

Work will get underway in the coming weeks and the new facility is scheduled to be complete in spring 2023.
