Dirt is moving for the latest Amazon.com Inc. fulfillment centre just east of Toronto.
Officials from the U.S. retail giant, developers Crestpoint Real Estate Investments and Blackwood Partners, the Ontario government and contractor Broccolini officially broke ground on the new 1.1 million sq. ft. facility in Ajax, Ont. Oct. 8.
Amazon announced plans for the facility, along with another in Hamilton, last month, adding to a fast-growing list of warehousing locations in Ontario. The 58-acre Ajax site is located on the northern end of Crestpoint’s GTA East Industrial Park,
Broccolini is leading construction on the new built-to-suit distribution centre, which will be used to ship large items like patio furniture and sports equipment to customers. It will be the fourth fulfillment centre the Quebec-based construction and development company has built for Amazon.
Plans for the building include 40-foot clear height, 195 trailer parking stalls, and 110 dock-level doors.
Work on the new facility is scheduled to be complete next year.
