Construction has started on the latest of a growing number of Canadian Amazon.com Inc. fulfillment centres.

Quebec-based developer and builder Broccolini said June 30 it has broken ground on a new warehouse facility for the online retail giant in Ottawa’s Barrhaven neighbourhood.

The 450,000 sq. ft. site will be Amazon’s second fulfillment center in Ottawa, as well as the second built by Broccolini. The company completed a one million sq. ft. site on the eastern edge of the capital last year.

Broccolini said its expertise in fast-paced construction will help it meet the 14-month turnaround for the project. Work on the large warehouse and shipping facility is expected to create approximately 700 jobs during construction.
