Volvo simplifies Dig Assist, making it easier for operators to create plans

An update to Volvo Construction Equipment’s Dig Assist machine control application for excavators will make it easier for operators to create plans and execute.

New software features such a customizable interface for In-Field Design and an angle grid screen to that helps keep parameters square when drawing shapes in Plan or Profile modes help operators map building foundations and custom trenches.

“It’s simple by design. If you use a smartphone, the Dig Assist app on the Co-Pilot display is a very similar experience — it quickly becomes second nature for operators,” said Matthew McLean, product manager for excavators at Volvo CE, in a release.

Dig Assist is available on 20 of Volvo’s excavators, while the Dig Assist Start basic package is now comes standard on the EC220E to EC480E. The platform gives operators the ability to use Trimble Earthworks with Dig Assist, or upgrade to Topcon 3DMC, depending on preference.
