WELLINGTON, P.E.I.—Two tiers of government have earmarked a combined $2.6 million for road work across Prince Edward Island.

The federal and provincial governments pledged the funds for five separate road projects May 17.

The infrastructure spend will cover resurfacing in Wellington on the west end of the island, as well as widening, shouldering and other rehabilitation jobs in New Annan, Hazel Grove, Urbainville and Union.

Ottawa has committed $1.1 million to the five projects, while P.E.I. will pay the difference. The two governments say the infrastructure work will shorten travel times for both residents and tourists while creating an undisclosed number of construction jobs.
