Co-operative Association (Co-op) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate their new Strathmore centre, which will be located at the intersection of the TransCanada Highway and George Freeman Trail. His Worship Michael Ell, Mayor of Strathmore, participated in the groundbreaking event along with representatives from Co-op, the Town of Strathmore and Elan Construction.

“Let’s celebrate what’s to come for the Strathmore community,” said Ken Woo, chief executive officer with Calgary Co-op, “We’ve simply outgrown our current location and will use this opportunity to develop a convenient shopping destination that includes not only an improved food store, but also a new wine, spirits and beer location and a second gas bar location.”

Co-op plans to open the new food store location during the summer of 2015. The new wine, spirits and beer location and the second gas bar location will open thereafter.

“As a town we know that Co-op needs to be able to grow with our community,” said His Worship Michael Ell, Mayor of Strathmore, “This new facility will allow them to do so.”

Construction of Co-op’s 35,000-sq.-ft. food store will begin immediately and (when it opens next summer) this location will replace the existing food store on 2nd street. Residents of Strathmore can look forward to a larger store that incorporates Co-op’s fresh, new look and feel, more parking and an expanded offering.
