Aecon, Dufferin awarded $261M bus rapid transit project in GTA

York Region selected the joint venture team of Aecon Group Inc. and Dufferin Construction Co. for a $261 million project to design and build the York Viva Bus Rapid Transit system in the towns of Richmond Hill and Newmarket, north of Toronto.

The project includes widening Yonge Street to accommodate about nine kilometres of lanes for Viva rapid transit vehicles in the centre of the road, as well as 10 new Viva stations.

The project is expected to take just over four years, beginning in the second quarter of this year and wrapping up in the fourth quarter of 2018.
