The Afro Canadian Contractors Association (ACCA) is hosting the inaugural Bridging the Gap, Celebrating Black Contractors Gala and Awards ceremony on Saturday, June 4th, 2022, at the Hyatt Place Toronto/Mississauga Centre.
“This is a night to celebrate and support Black contractors and construction workers who are producing excellence in the sector where they are traditionally underrepresented,” stated ACCA president Stephen Callender.
The event aims to bring together over 250 members, community partners and supporters to honour those who best represent the organization’s principles across Canada.
Keynote speaker for the gala will be Karla Avis-Birch, chief planning officer at Metrolinx. Over the course of her career, she has overseen the construction and completion of countless instrumental infrastructural pieces and has accelerated the delivery of service. She also established the first Metrolinx Project Controls and Design Standards Office, in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario on the procurement of Public Private Partnerships (P3) projects, and was accountable for the delivery of transformational GO Expansion programs.
