EDMONTON—The contract for a major construction project in one of Canada’s busiest National Parks has been awarded to PCL Constructors Inc.

Parks Canada announced last week the Edmonton-based contractor will head the $48.7 million project to overhaul Jasper National Park’s Whistlers Campground. The sprawling overnight campground is the park’s largest with 781 sites, but has not been upgraded in any major way since it was built in the 1960s.

The multimillion-dollar project will bring the Rocky Mountain campground’s 50-year-old infrastructure into the 21st century with new washroom and shower facilities, wider roads and improved underground services for water, wastewater and electricity. A new registration building is also included in the job.

The popular Alberta campground has been shut down for the 2019 season as work gets underway.
