The Cowichan Valley School District has shortlisted three contractors and issued a request for proposals for a project to build a new high school on Vancouver Island.

The school district’s board issued an RFP for the $62 million Cowichan Secondary School Replacement Project in Duncan, B.C. on Jan. 14.

The next step in procurement follows several years of planning and a detailed assessment of the existing Cowichan Secondary. Construction will account for the bulk of project costs, though the infrastructure job’s total budget totals $82.1 million.

Yellowridge Design Build Ltd., Kinetic Construction Ltd. and Urban One Builders are in the running for construction contract and will have until this summer to prepare bids.

The new school will accomodate roughly 1,100 students and is scheduled to open in spring 2024.
