The contract for a water treatment facility project at the Hartland Landfill in Saanich, B.C., has reached a financial close.
Bird Construction, as part of the Hartland Resource Management Group consortium, executed the contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the facility.
Part of the Capital Regional District (CRD) of Vancouver, B.C., the facility will process residual waste from the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant in Esquimalt, B.C.
The plant will have capacity to treat over 14,000 dry tonnes of residuals per year over the term of the 20-year contract.
In December 2017, the consortium – Bird Construction, Maple Reinders Constructors and Synagro Technologies – announced it had won the bid for the project.
It was one of three teams shortlisted, in addition to Harbour Resource Partners and Hartland Biosolids Partners.
Bird has a 50 per cent interest in the construction joint venture. It has also taken a minority equity interest in the concession responsible for the design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance of the project through Bird Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary.
The Hartland water treatment facility is funded by the Government of British Columbia, P3 Canada and the CRD.
