Bridges Infrastructure Roads overpass progress report project roads Saskatchewan

New overpasses at Warman and Martensville are about 40 per cent complete.  The $60.6 million overpasses will improve safety at two of Saskatchewan’s fastest-growing communities.

“Investing in efficient roads and highways helps drive economic productivity and create middle-class jobs,” said Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.  “The Government of Canada is proud to invest in the overpass construction projects under way in Martensville and Warman. The projects will improve local traffic flow and safety as the region continues to grow.”

“This project is all about the benefits of increased safety and efficiency for daily commuters heading to and from the communities of Warman and Martensville, as well as all points north,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said.  “There are a number of good Saskatchewan companies participating in this project.  We are very pleased with its progression and are looking forward to the project’s completion.”

Under the design-build partnership with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, Kiewit is responsible for the design and construction of the overpasses.

The Government of Canada is contributing up to 50 per cent of eligible costs through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects and the Government of Saskatchewan will be responsible for all remaining costs of the project.

In Warman, the Highway 11/305 overpass will offer a safe route in and out of the community.  With more than 18,000 vehicles per day, it will also provide an opportunity for future road network expansion, while accommodating traffic during construction.

With approximately 14,000 vehicles per day on Highway 12, the new interchange at Martensville will disperse traffic along Main Street and Centennial Drive, reducing congestion and providing safer access to current and future developments.  The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2019.

Construction of the Martensville and Warman overpasses is part of more than $100 million in highway construction and maintenance in the Saskatoon area this year, which includes Highway 5 passing lanes, Highway 7 twinning, bridge work on Highway 11 and Highway 16 paving.
