Trimble has agreed to acquire Portland, Ore.-based Viewpoint for US$1.2 billion.

The purchase aims to extend Trimble’s construction management software offering, and is complementary to its recent acquisition of Florida-based software company e-Builder, which it purchased for $500 million in February.

Viewpoint integrates a contractor’s financial and resource management to their project operations, jobsite and field.

With Viewpoint, Trimble will offer a central workflow platform for construction management. Viewpoint will focus on general, specialty and heavy civil contractors, and link project data into the owner-facing e-Builder suite.

Currently managing over $400 billion of construction project value, Viewpoint has approximately 8,000 customers worldwide, including contractors from the Engineering News-Record 400 and 600 construction firms.

“The acquisitions are strategically significant and position us to play a unique and central market role in providing comprehensive enterprise and project solutions,” said Steven W. Berglund, president and CEO of Trimble.
