A week after announcing the acquisition of GeoShack’s assets in Ontario, a purchase that made it the exclusive dealer of Topcon Positioning Systems Inc. equipment across Canada, the Brandt Group of Companies has firmed up a related agreement to become the country’s sole dealer for Sokkia equipment.

A subsidiary of Topcon, Sokkia makes optical survey instruments and a range of related geopositioning accessories.

Brandt said June 11 it has reached an agreement with Topcon to acquire the assets of Sokkia Canada, which operates mainly in Ontario and Quebec, pending final approval from Topcon’s board of directors.

“The Sokkia brand has a long, proud history in the industry and securing this experienced retail team, along with the rights to deliver these products for customers in Ontario and Quebec has been a high priority for us,” Shaun Semple, Brandt’s CEO, said in a release. “We are very committed growing our presence in the survey market and this addition is a big step forward for us.”

The purchase will make Brandt the exclusive dealer of Sokkia equipment across the country. It is the latest in a string of acquisitions for the Regina-based dealer, which started with its purchase of John Deere dealer Nortrax last fall.

Brandt expects the agreement to close later this month.
