Construction has started on a pair of overpasses on Highway 1 outside Swift Current, Sask.

The province said Jan. 25 Graham Construction has begun work to rehabilitate the highway’s westbound bridge over the CP Rail tracks roughly five kilometres east of the city. Repairs will take until June, at which point, the contractor will shift its focus to the eastbound overpass, which requires full replacement.

All traffic, amounting to roughly 6,000 vehicles a day, will be routed onto the eastbound bridge during repairs to the westbound structure, and shifted to the rehabilitated westbound overpass once construction starts on its eastbound counterpart.

Construction on the $18 million project is scheduled to last until next fall.
