POWELL RIVER, B.C.—North Vancouver contractor B.A. Blacktop Ltd. has won a $2.6 million contract to widen and resurface a segment of British Columbia’s Highway 101.

The province says the project will realign, resurface and widen a one-kilometre stretch of the highway between Krompocker and Malaspina roads, outside Powell River, B.C.

Highway 101, or the Sunshine Coast Highway, links a number of towns northwest of Vancouver. Though it’s situated on the mainland, it’s only accessible by ferry. The B.C. government says the current pavement on the highway is in poor condition.

B.A. Blacktop will start work this week and aims to complete the project this fall.
