Dawson Civil Ltd. will start construction this summer on a project to widen the Trans-Canada Highway from two to four lanes just east of Kamloops, B.C.

The province awarded the company the $25.9 million contract for the 3.3-kilometre Chase Creek Road to Chase West project July 7.

Widening the highway and adding a median make up the bulk of the work. A pair of intersection upgrades, as well as a separated pedestrian crossing are also included in the scope.

The project is part of a wider B.C. initiative to widen the Trans-Canada, or Hwy. 1, to four lanes between Kamloops and the Alberta border. The government has budgeted just over $1 billion over the next three years for this effort.
