Procore Technologies Inc. is a launching a new product to help connect more workers in the field with 3D job site models.

Despite a lot of time and money being spent on Building Information Modeling (BIM), the 3D models themselves often reside on a shared computer on the job site or an engineers laptop, Procore noted. The company’s new BIM Viewer aims to change this by letting crews access the models on their iPads and iPhones.

“3D models provide a central location for critical project information, and with many large construction projects utilizing BIM, we want to ensure that everyone involved in the project has access to the information,” said Tooey Courtemanche, Procore’s founder and CEO, said in a release. “When 3D models are in the hands of the people actually installing and validating the work, the value derived from virtual design and construction to mitigate risk, reduce waste, and increase productivity is finally attainable.”

The new system, which lets teams publish their models directly on the Procore iOS app, will be available in early September.
