Petro-Canada Lubricants launches first readily biodegradable hydraulic fluid

By On-Site Staff

Petro-Canada Lubricants has launched the first hydraulic fluid of its kind to meet new requirements for ready biodegradability.

The new fluid for piston, gear and vane hydraulic pumps uses ultra-pure severely hydrotreated base oils and an ashless additive system to conform to OECD 301B regulations while offering industrial and mobile equipment premium protection.

Known as Environ MV R, the fluid contains no zinc or other heavy metal additives, making it safer for environmentally-sensitive areas.

“By using Environ MV R, operators don’t need to sacrifice performance to meet environmental standards, and it can enable extended drain intervals, minimize maintenance and maximize savings,” Tony Weatherill, president of Petro-Canada Lubricants, said in a release. “To have developed an innovative and environmentally friendly solution, the first of its kind, with the performance benefits of a premium mineral oil based product is testament to our research and development team.”

The new hydraulic fluid is geared toward those in the construction, forestry, waste and agriculture industries, among others.
