Small- to mid-size contractors are the main market for the latest addition to Doosan Infracore North America’s lineup of crawler excavators. And these sort of builders, who may take on light excavation jobs like digging residential basements or commercial building footings, are expected to benefit from the 17-metric-ton model’s weight, as it can be transported more easily and less expensively in many jurisdictions.

The DX170LC-5 excavator is be a step up from the smaller Doosan DX140LC-5 and DX140LCR-5 models, but it won’t be as large as the DX180LC-5, the company says.

“We felt it was very important to offer a model in this size class to ensure our excavating customers could minimize transportation costs, while retaining the performance they expect from Doosan excavators,” Aaron Kleingartner, Doosan Infracore North America marketing manager, said in a release. “The new model fits nicely in our crawler excavator lineup, giving our customers more options to suit their needs.”

The new model offers four different power modes for a number of different tasks and includes a wide range of standard features, including a rearview camera, 7-inch LCD in-cab screen and a three-year subscription to DoosanCONNECT telematics. A long list of options are also available.

The DX170LC-5 has a 127 hp Tier 4-compliant diesel engine, an operating weight of 38,376 pounds and a maximum digging depth of 19 feet, 11 inches.
