Mack Trucks is focussing on proactive vehicle maintenance to keep fleets operating at maximum efficiency with a new service known as dynamic maintenance.

The service uses data from vehicle analytics to map out when maintenance is needed and replace traditional “set mileage’ service schedules. The truck manufacturer is partnering with Internet of Things tech firm Noregon on the service, which also ties in Mack GuardDog Connect telematics and the Mack’s ASIST service communications process.

“Mack is focused on providing customers options to improve their total cost of ownership through connected vehicle services,” said David Pardue, vice-president of connected vehicle and contract services for Mack Trucks, in a release. “Enhancing maintenance planning utilizing existing vehicle telematics and data analytics is yet another way in which we accomplish this. Vehicle technology and data provide us the capability to ‘customize’ planning so that it’s specific to a vehicle and its operation.”

This new vehicle technology will let Mack customers optimize planned downtime, Pardue added.

For the time being, the dynamic maintenance service will focus on powertrain-related maintenance services, but Pardue hinted at more advancements to come as customers and dealers embrace new maintenance opportunities.
