JCB has announced that their 19C-IE mini excavator is now available in Canada and the United States.

The 19C-IE mini excavator is JCB’s first fully electric mini excavator. The 2-ton (1.9 tonne) excavator offers the same amount of power as JCB’s diesel-powered 19C excavator but produces zero exhaust emissions and one-fifth of the noise.

“Increasing urbanization, environmental sensitivity and safety awareness is driving demand for zero-emissions machines that perform as well as diesel equipment,” Chris Lucas, product manager for compact excavators at JCB North America said in a release.

The 19C-IE is powered by three lithium-ion batteries, creating 313 Ah (15 kWh) of capacity, allowing it to complete a day’s work on a single charge. An optional four-battery pack increases capacity to 417 Ah (20 kWh) delivering another two hours of continuous use.

Other features of the 19C-IE include a 48-volt electric driveline generating peak power up to 27 hp (20 kW) a Bosch Rexroth load-sensing hydraulic system for digging up to 2.82 meters, a retractable undercarriage and a rugged battery pack housing.

The 19C-IE also includes an on-board charger with standard, domestic 110 V input for 12-hour recharging. A 230 V charging option is also available for an eight-hour recharge as well as a two-hour fast recharge option.

Best suited to construction and excavation applications, the 19C-IE is ideal for enclosed or urban job sites, such as schools and hospitals, where noise and emission-sensitives must be considered.
