The ECR25 Electric compact excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment produces zero exhaust emissions and has significantly lower noise levels, reduced energy costs, improved efficiency and fewer maintenance requirements compared with its conventional counterparts. Its quiet nature makes it a prime candidate for work in populated areas, especially on projects that require nighttime work or operation in residential locations.

The mini excavator’s batteries store enough electric energy to power it for four to six hours in its most common applications, such as utility work. Volvo CE recommends a 240-volt, Level 2 AC setup, the same as is used for electric cars. An off-board fast charger can also be used with a three-phase 480-volt AC outlet, which allows the ECR25 Electric to reach 80 per cent power within one hour.

The 2.7-ton machine offers comparable specs to its conventional diesel equivalent, boasting a digging depth of just over nine feet, and breakout force of 5,020 lbf.

As an electric machine, it does not require oil, oil filters, diesel particulate filters or DEF as there is no internal combustion engine to maintain.
