A new single-stage, oil-injected rotary screw type portable air compressor from Atlas Copco aims to bring down costs for contractors and save on maintenance.
The company has released its new XAS 950, which is powered by a liquid-cooled six-cylinder turbocharged Caterpillar C7.1 Tier 4 Final diesel engine.
“The XAS 950 is built around the principals of pressure and flow. The focus of the unit is putting the controls in the operator’s hands thanks to the innovation and unique performance management solution, PACE,” Clayton Jones, product manager of large air at Atlas Copco, said in a release. “This air compressor delivers better performance in a smaller and lighter package. We believe it will be a game changer.”
The company pointed to geothermal drilling, horizontal directional drilling, sandblasting and shotcrete as several areas of construction best positioned to take advantage of the new compressor.
Using new pressure adjusted through cognitive electronics (PACE) technology, the unit has a wide range of pressure and flow settings such as; 950 CFM at 100 psi, 900 CFM at 150 psi and 750 CFM at 200 psi. By matching engine speed, power and torque to air demand, it can save customers 15-20 per cent of fuel.
