SASKATOON—Wright Construction Western Inc. was hit with a $70,000 fine last week for an incident that left one worker with serious injuries.

According to Saskatchewan’s minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, the accident occurred in January of 2017 when a worker was unloading a scissor lift from a flatbed trailer. The lift drove off the trailer’s ramp and overturned, leaving the worker with a serious hip injury.

The contractor pleaded guilty to a violation of the province’s Occupational Health and Safety regulations for failing to ensure “systems of work and working environments” are safe for employees. One additional charge was stayed.

The Saskatoon court imposed a $50,000 fine, as well as a $20,000 surcharge.
