Alberta, feds fund 20 new infrastructure projects, including $70M Edson rec centre

The federal and Alberta governments have announced a series of new investments in the central part of the province.

The nearly two dozen new projects will get $82.3 million from Ottawa, approximately $69.7 million from the province and millions more from local governments. They include a number of recreation and wastewater projects that fall under the federal government’s 12-year Investing in Canada Plan.

Funding for a new $70 million recreational facility, with two ice arenas, two pools and four curling sheets, among other features, in Edson, Alta. is the largest single investment included in the funding package. Along with the federal and provincial backing, the municipality/region will be spending $33 million on the project.

Other major investments include a $42 million expansion to the G.H. Dawe Community Centre in Red Deer and a $27 million upgrade to a regional wastewater facility in Rocky Mountain House.
