The mandatory course is designed to keep staff safe when working from heights

More than 100,000 Ontario workers whose working-at-heights training would have expired in 2020 have been given another year to renew their certification.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development said March 30 the mandatory retraining can be put off until the end of 2021. It cited COVID-19 and the many training facilities that have been shut down as a result of the outbreak for the change.

The adjustment affects workers who last took the working-at-heights course between Feb. 28 and Aug. 31 of 2017.

The province said it has made the necessary changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training Regulation.
