Feds, Quebec contribute $820M for Montreal public transportation projects

MONTREAL—The federal government will contribute over $453 million to fund 26 public transportation projects in Montreal.

The funding, a total of $453,254,997, accounts for half of the total costs. Quebec will contribute 40 per cent, or $367,343,575, for a total of over $820 million. The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain will provide the remaining 10 per cent.

Projects, carried out by the Société de transport de Montréal, include construction of the Côte-Vertu garage. The $175 million project will house additional metro cars for the city’s Orange Line.

Approximately $94 million will go towards rebuilding the Crémazie complex, expected to be complete in 2021.

Among other projects is a new Bellechasse garage, renovations to a building at 2000 Berri Street and an expansion of the Centre d’attachement Viau.

Upgrades will be made to system infrastructure such as tunnels, auxiliary structures and maintenance workshops.
