A years-long project to connect numerous Alberta communities between Edmonton and Lloydminster with a reliable supply of potable water is entering its final stretch with backing from all levels of government.

Ottawa announced support for eight water infrastructure projects in the central part of the province Aug. 11, including $13.3 million for the remaining 96.3 kilometre portion of the Alberta Central East (ACE) Regional Water Transmission System.

The latest work on the project will see nearly 100-kilometres of new water line installed, linking 18 communities in Minburn, Two Hills and Vermillion River. The provincial and municipal governments will contribute $16 million and $4 million, respectively, to the infrastructure work.

Other major projects backed under the latest federal funding package include 35.8 kilometres of water lines to the Village of Edberg and the Village of Clive, and upgrades to a wastewater lagoon in Wainwright. A full breakdown on the eight projects receiving funding is available here.
