Dawson City, Y.T. gets $15.7M to overhaul water, sewer system

Construction FinancingWHITEHORSE—A remote city on the Yukon River best known as a base camp during the 19th century Klondike Gold Rush has secured $15.7 million to bring its wastewater system into the modern era.
The federal and territorial government announced the significant infrastructure funding for Dawson City Sept. 10., alongside small-scale investments for two other projects in Yukon.
The work in Dawson includes water and sewer infrastructure upgrades. It’s the second phase of a years-long project and follows a $15 million investment in a new pump house and other water treatment equipment earlier this year.
About $11.7 million of the new funding will come from Ottawa’s 12-year infrastructure plan, while Yukon will pay for the remaining $3.9 million.
The latest funding package also sets aside $400,000 for upgrades to the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Water Treatment Plant and $500,000 for a solar project on the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation.
