A project to build a new transmission line across the western end of Prince Edward Island is moving ahead with $44 million in backing from the provincial and federal governments.

The 106-kilometre power line will support a planned wind farm project outside Tignish, at the northwest tip of the island. Capable of managing the 40 megawatts of power generated by the renewable power station, the transmission line will run northwest from the Sherbrooke substation to Skinners Pond.

The provincial and federal governments have committed $22.75 million and $21.25 million, respectively, to the project.

The Skinner’s Pond Windfarm is planned for 2025.
