Tallest Canadian tower outside Toronto topped off in Edmonton

EDMONTON—Construction crews have topped off the latest addition to Edmonton’s skyline at 251 metres (823 feet).
After more than three years of construction, the new Stantec Tower stands 66 storeys. It’s the tallest building in Canada outside Toronto and will include both residential and commercial space.
Developers Katz Group and Toronto-based One Properties are spearheading the multi-use tower, which is part of an Edmonton development zone that’s become known the the Ice District. Engineering firm Stantec was responsible for the design work, while PCL is serving as the general contractor in charge of construction.
As the name suggests, Stantec will be a fixture of the new building. The company has relocated its global headquarters to the tower, and despite the incomplete upper levels, 1,500 workers have already moved into floors three to 20.
Dentons Canada, DLA Piper and PwC Canada are among the other firms that will occupy some of the tower’s 29,000 sq. ft. of office space. 483 condo units will take up most of the remaining floor space.
Construction on the tower is scheduled to conclude by fall 2019.
