St. Thomas Elgin Hospital contract awarded

EllisDon Infrastructure STEGH Inc. has signed a $63.3 million fixed-price contract to build and finance the St. Thomas Elgin Hospital Emergency, Ambulatory and Mental Health redevelopment project.

The project involves a three-storey addition to the northwest side of the current hospital building. The new addition will be approximately 106,000 square feet and will include:

• a new emergency department;
• surgical suite;
• medical devices reprocessing department;
• acute mental health unit with 15 inpatient beds and ambulatory services;
• ambulance garage.

At the peak of construction, there will be approximately 125 workers on-site. EllisDon estimates that approximately 50 per cent of the labour for the project will come from the London/St. Thomas area.

The contract guarantees a fixed price and a fixed-delivery date for the redevelopment of the hospital with full payment coming at point of substantial completion. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2018.
