Construction Construction Materials Financing Infrastructure LEED P3s

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have released a request for qualifications to design, build, finance and maintain GO Transit’s East Rail Maintenance Facility. The new 600,000-plus sq. ft. facility will provide daily maintenance for upwards of 22 12-car passenger trains.

The facility’s features will include: 18 storage tracks; an electrical substation for power supply to facility and trains; progressive maintenance bays; a coach shop; diesel shop; paint shop; wheel shop; locomotive and train wash buildings; a fuelling station and staff offices.

The company chosen for the project is expected to provide sustainable practices in its design and construction plans that will allow the project to pursue a minimum designation of LEED Silver.

The project will proceed under IO’s Alternative Financing and Procurement delivery model – a P3 model. The project is part of Metrolinx’s regional transportation plan, The Big Move.

Funding for the project will be split between the Government of Canada (P3 Canada Fund), the Province of Ontario and Metrolinx.
