Real estate developer Ivanhoe Cambridge has launched a large-scale redevelopment project for the Montreal Eaton Centre.

The $200 million investment aims to enhance the shopping centre at the mall located on Sainte-Catherine Street in Montreal, Que.

The Complexe Les Ailes, a shopping centre on Sainte-Catherine Street, will be merged with the Montreal Eaton Centre.

“With the physical changes we are making and the collaboration of our current and future retailers and brands, we are setting out to redefine the urban shopping experience downtown,” said Claude Sirois, president of retail at Ivanhoe Cambridge.

The unification of the two properties aims to offer an enhanced commercial offering and new retail environment. The redevelopment will also introduce a gourmet food hall.

The reconfigured Montreal Eaton Centre, to be completed in 2020, will provide leasing opportunities, including large format retailers, according to Ivanhoe Cambridge.

The new centre will also have direct access to four major arteries: Sainte-Catherine Street West, McGill College Avenue, Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and De Maisonneuve Boulevard West.

According to Ivanhoe Cambridge, the two centres welcome over 30 million visitors annually.

The redevelopment is the latest venture in the company’s Project Nouveau Centre, a plan to invest $1 billion in downtown Montreal.

Project Nouveau Centre aims to invest in Ivanhoe Cambridge’s flagship downtown properties and to enhance the urban experience in the heart of the city centre. All projects in the plan are now underway.
