McInnis Cement has announced plans to go ahead with its Port-Daniel-Gascons cement plant project this spring along the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec.
Planning for the $1-billion project in Gaspésie, Que. has been in the works since December 2011 and will represent one of the largest industrial projects in the province.
McInnis Cement expects construction of the plant will take about two years and create at least 2,300 jobs. Estimates suggest the plant will be able to produce 2.2 million tons of cement with a potential growth to 2.5 million, the majority of which will be exported out of Quebec.
