Pomerleau wins $38M bid for Westmount Recreation Centre

Pomerleau Inc. has been awarded a design-build contract from the City of Westmount for the construction of its new recreation centre.

The cost of the project is $38 million, with Pomerleau’s design-build contract coming in at a cost of $33.5 million.

The Westmount Recreation Centre will feature an outdoor, 25-metre swimming pool equipped with eight lanes, starter blocks, a diving area and an adjacent toddler pool, three outdoor tennis courts, a youth centre, two exercise rooms, offices for the city’s sports and recreation department and two skating rinks built below ground – one 200-ft. long and another 185-ft. long.

The facility will be built to LEED Gold certification.

City Council unanimously approved the construction of the facility at a meeting of council on February 6.

Construction is expected to begin this spring, with the pool opening in the summer of 2013 and the arena opening in the fall of 2013.
