Paving the way in Northern Ontario

The Ontario government is providing $1 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to support the expansion of Avery Construction in Sault Ste. Marie.

The funding will be used to purchase a portable asphalt plant. The new equipment will allow the company to provide a more environmentally sound asphalt for use on local road projects, as well as for paving parking lots, pathways and driveways.

“By helping local businesses to innovate and expand their operations, we are strengthening our local economy and providing new products and services to people throughout Northern Ontario,” said Ross Romano, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie.

The project will help create four full-time jobs and an additional 12 seasonal full-time jobs in the region.

“By investing in companies that innovate and adopt new technologies, we are reinforcing the North’s competitive advantage,” added Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry.

“We at Avery Construction are grateful for NOHFC’s partnership in seeing this expansion through,” said Amanda Williams of Avery Construction. “Welcoming asphalting as another facet of our company was a critical next step for us and has allowed our construction division to become a start-to-finish heavy civil solution.”

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $432 million in 4,025 projects in Northern Ontario, creating or sustaining over 6,200 jobs.
