An independent review panel has recommended reducing the journeyperson to apprentice ratio for the general carpenter trade to make room for more apprentices.

The panel reached the decision following a call for written submissions and public oral hearings, according to a new release from the Ontario College of Trades.

There are 33 trades with ratios in Ontario and this was the final panel decision for the 2012-2013 round of ratio reviews.

Because of the College’s new process for ratio reviews, decisions about ratios were made with input from skilled tradespeople and interested stakeholders in an open and transparent way.

The College has a mandate to conduct ratio reviews every four years, with the next round of ratio reviews beginning in 2016.
