ONEC recognized in Canada’s Best Managed Companies program for 2017
EDMONTON – ONEC, a company founded and managed in Edmonton, was honoured with the prestigious Canada’s Best Managed Companies designation, one of only three new winners in the city this year. The 2017 Best Managed program recognizes the best in class of Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $15 million demonstrating strategy, capability and commitment to achieve sustainable growth.
“We are all proud to have won this award in such challenging times in Alberta,” said Denis Wiart, president & CEO of ONEC. “Our team has really pulled together, put on their entrepreneurial hats and expanded into other markets. We saw a disruption in the oil and gas market and expanded in renewables, utilities, midstream and commercial.”
ONEC began in 2000 as an engineering firm – ECO-Technica – and in 2004 added construction to the mix with Oncore Construction Services. In 2015 a rebranding took place to provide a unified identity under the names ONEC Engineering and ONEC Construction. It is a remarkable tribute to everyone involved that the company was able to distinguish itself in such a short time period, as a leader of all aspects of industrial project implementation. The ONEC team has also established a strong reputation of being a professional and personal service provider at a reasonable cost.
“It starts with our clients,” adds Denis. “They are busy and face numerous pressures, so ONEC performs as a trusted “extension” of their team. When our clients face tight deadlines to complete maintenance work and projects in an efficient manner, our team at ONEC is here to help. We provide a ready source of expertise and manpower to provide a “one stop sop shop” for their needs. We also help them look to the future and incorporate emerging technologies into their markets. Our mission is to be our clients’ BEST and most trusted team of engineers and construction personnel.”
Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies for innovative, world-class business practices. Winners are an important engine of economic growth for being adaptable and sustainable in a global market. Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel made up of judges from Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums. Best Managed companies share commonalities that include an emphasis on culture and people, innovation, sustained performance and strong financial results.
“It’s much more than just financial performance,” said Peter Brown, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “The ingredients to success also include overall business performance and sustained growth. It takes dedication and commitment from the entire organization.”
