NFLD government earmarks $12.5M for infrastructure in Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans district

Newfoundland and Labrador’s provincial government is allocating $12.5M for provincial/municipal cost-share infrastructure projects in the District of Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans.

Here is how the provincial government will distribute the funding:

  • $11.5 to the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor for a several infrastructure projects
  • $650,000 to the Town of Badger to pave Church Street, Sunset Drive and Main Street
  • $229,000 to complete a sewer system treatment project in Buchans Junction
  • $115,000 for paving in the Town of Millertown.

Dan Crummell, minister of municipal and intergovernmental affairs, said improving municipal infrastructure is vital for sustaining rural Newfoundland and Labrador.

“This investment of $12.5 million will assist the residents of the Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans region with improvements to roads, water and sewer services as well as enhancements to recreation infrastructure,” he said. “Government remains focused on these types of initiatives and has allocated $650 million to more than 1,200 municipal infrastructure projects between 2008 and 2013.”

Susan Sullivan, minister of innovation, business and rural development and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, said investing in the future of rural Newfoundland and Labrador is priority for the government.

“Today’s announcement represents a significant commitment to important infrastructure, which will improve services for residents and businesses and make these communities better places for families to live,” she said.
