A new head office for the National Bank of Canada will be constructed at the corner of St. Jacques Street and Robert-Bourassa Boulevard in Montreal, Que.
Major construction work on the property is expected to develop the headquarters, which will be the largest office tower built in the city’s downtown core in 25 years.
“National Bank is proud to announce that it will be moving its head office to the heart of one of Montreal’s main access routes, which has been completely revamped in recent years,” stated Louis Vachon, president and chief executive officer at National Bank.
The building concept will be finalized over the coming months through architectural competition, according to National Bank.
National Bank has occupied a tower at 600 De La Gauchetière West in Montreal since the early 1980s, and recently started modernizing its workspaces. The former office will be put up for sale, and those funds will be used for construction of the new head office.
The bank hopes the construction of a new head office will create modern, collaborative space and improve employee wellbeing. National Bank will be the sole occupant of the building.
“Returning to St-Jacques Street is particularly meaningful since National Bank had a head office on that very street over a century ago,” said Vachon. “With this new location at the entryway to Montreal, National Bank will bring most of its various Montreal teams together under one roof to give their activities even greater impact, both in terms of client experience and contributions to the economy and society.”
The use of materials and services from Quebec and Canadian clients of the bank will be preferred in all facets of construction, according to National Bank.
The building’s planned occupancy date is 2022.
