Metrolinx looks at expanding GO Transit with 50 new stations

Metrolinx is looking at expanding services to include up to 50 new GO Transit stations in the next 10 years.

While investigations are still at the preliminary stages, many of the stops being looked at were included in Toronto Mayor John Tory’s SmartTrack plan.

None of the possible sites have had any environmental assessments done, nor is  there any budget money formally  allocated to the expansion plan that will ultimately include a regional express rail program possibly using electric trains.

The 50 sites under review were shortlisted from a possible 120. That list is expected to be further cut down during a consultation period this fall. The final proposed station sites will then go back for further study, according to a report presented to the Metrolinx board on Tuesday.

The five corridor lines being considered for expansion of station stops include:
