ST. JOHN’S—Work is underway on a new middle school in Paradise, N.L. designed to accommodate 800 students.
Nova Scotia-based Lindsay Construction won the contract for the $30.9 million project in April and now has shovels in the ground, the province announced June 21.
The three-floor Paradise Intermediate School will cover 11,000 square metres (approximately 120,000 sq. ft) and will host students from grades six to nine.
The institutional project on the west end of the St. John’s area is one of several school building jobs underway in the province. The Newfoundland and Labrador government said the concrete for a new school in Bay Roberts was poured last week, while construction on schools in Gander and Bay d’Espoir is scheduled to start later in the year.
The Paradise project, as well as the schools in the three other communities, are expected to be complete by 2021.
