EBC to construct tunnels and shafts for Montreal’s Lavigne Retention Pond

Construction Infrastructure blasting civil works drilling EBC Lavigne Retention Pond Phase 1 tunnels

EBC is delighted to announce a new $39M contract for the City of Montreal, namely the Lavigne Retention Pond Phase 1: Construction of tunnels and shafts located in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville and St-Laurent districts.

The purpose of this project is to reduce the numbers of spills in the des Prairies River and to increase the service level of the Gouin Collector. Our mandate consists in the construction of a circular underground structure 42 m in diameter and 25 m deep, the excavation 3 tunnels (total length : 2 km) required for the installation of 1.8 m diameter pipes, as well as the construction of three shafts located within the path of the three tunnels, one shaft per tunnel. The project also includes various temporary and permanent civil works. The excavation methods of the three tunnels which has been chosen by our team is the drilling and blasting.

The 425 day project will start next October and will end in December 2018.

With the Jarry Tunnel and the Côte-Vertu garage, this project represents the third active tunnel excavation site carried out by EBC on the island of Montreal.
