
Lafarge to ramp up precast operations and automation in Alberta

Construction InfrastructureLafarge Canada Inc. is investing $60 million to double capacity and add more automation to its Alberta precast operations to keep up with growing customer demand in the energy, infrastructure, commercial and residential markets.
Construction of a new plant in northern Alberta is scheduled to begin this year. It will be equipped with the latest automation technology, including robotics and full-scale computer-aided design and manufacturing.
In southern Alberta, an upgrade of the Calgary plant is underway to improve Lafarge’s use of automation and provide additional capacity for production of structural and architectural products.
Lafarge uses the Canadian Precast Concrete Institute’s Sustainable Plant program to measure environmental impact.
