BERMUDA—President and CEO of Bockstael Construction Ltd., John Bockstael, has been picked to head the Canadian Construction Association’s board of directors for 2019.

The group made the 12-month appointment at its annual general meeting in balmy Bermuda late last month. Since joining the CCA’s board in 2005, Bockstael has chaired the association’s General Contractors Council and Standard Practices Committee. He’s the outgoing chair of Canadian Construction Innovations, a CCA project aimed to fostering new ideas and implementing new building methods.

In an address to the AGM, Bockstael pointed to four areas of focus for the year. Workforce attraction and retention, innovation, governance renewal and community engagement as well as “uniting and collaborating to proactively champion issues that matter,” will be top-of-mind for the association in 2019.

“Not only do we need to educate and inform our members about the benefits of innovation and technology,” Bockstael said. “We need to help the industry re-train the workforce, attract and retain tech-savvy workers and understand how things like building information modelling, pre-fabrication and software applications may affect our businesses.”

Bockstael takes over the post from Zey Emir, the president of Revay and Associates Ltd.
